Natural reserves

There are a total of 19 protected natural areas in Oltenia below the mountain:

The Buila-Vânturariţa National Park (category II IUCN) is located on the territory of Costeti, Bărbăți and Băile Olănești and is also a Natura 2000 site for the protection of habitats (ROSCI0015) and birds (ROSPA0025).

 

There are also 12 natural reserves on the territory of the national park (category category IV IUCN), most (10) being speleological reserves:


– 7 caves on the territory of Băilor Olănești, in Cheile Cheii: Caprelor Cave, Clopot Cave, Lac Cave, Pearl Cave, Munteanu-Murgoci Cave, Pagodelor Cave and Rac Cave

– Two caves on the territory of Costești commune, in the Bistriței Gorge: Liliecilor Cave and Valea Bistrița Cave

– A cave on the territory of Băilor Olănești, in the Folea gorges: Arnăuții Cave
– two complex nature reserves, on the territory of Băilor Olănești, on the Cheii Valley: the Muntele Stogu Nature Reserve and the Valea Cheia Nature Reserve

 

On the territory of the Oltenia Geopark below the mountain there are also 3 other nature reserves (category IV IUCN), in Costești and Băile Olănești and another Natura 2000 site, on the territory of Vaideeni commune:


– Nature Reserve Museum of the Costesti Trovants
– Radița-Mânzu Olăneşti Nature Reserve
– Nature Reserve Mosoroasa
– Natura 2000 site ROSCI0128 North Eastern Gorj

 

In the immediate vicinity of the territory of the Oltenia Geopark below the mountain there are two more nature reserves (category IV IUCN):


– Slătioara Pyramids Nature Reserve
– Ocnele Mari Nature Reserve
